In my one on one coaching sessions very often I’ll speak of the concept as above, so below. What I mean by this is that as the principal, or department manager your team will follow you only to the level in which you can lead. If you lag behind with inspiration, direction and discipline so to will the team and so too will your clients follow suit.

A mistake I often see Principals make is when they promote a Property Manager into the Department Manager’s role mostly due to their experience in the industry rather than their leadership or management skills. In some instances it is a title gained for time served.
It is highly advantageous then for you to incorporate leadership and management skills training into their position. Get involved. Groom your staff to become champions! Your clients will love you for it and your team will follow you wherever you decide to go!
